New Delhi, Sep 05, 2014:  Reports said on Friday that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung, has written to the President seeking permission to invite the BJP to form government in Delhi.

In his report to President Pranab Mukherjee, Jung reportedly said that the BJP should be invited to form government in Delhi as it is the single largest party.

It may be noted that Delhi has been under President’s Rule since February when Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal resigned as the chief minister.

The BJP at present has 29 MLAs and is the single largest party in the Legislative Assembly. It had won 32 seats in the December elections that threw up a fractured verdict, but three of its legislators later went on to win the Lok Sabha elections in May this year.

The AAP is placed second with the Congress trailing far behind with just four MLAs.

Reports said President Mukherjee has already forwarded the LG’s recommendation on government formation to the Union Home Ministry, which will now bring up the issue before the Union Cabinet.

Jung in his report to the President is reported to have argued that the BJP should be allowed to form government and prove its majority on the floor of the House.

The AAP had earlier accused the BJP of trying to poach its MLAs by offering money and posts. It also alleged that the LG was working at the behest of the BJP – the ruling party at the Centre.
