Kumaraswamy promises action against fringe groups

Mangalore Today News Network

June 19, 2018: A day after Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik indirectly compared Gauri Lankesh to a "dog" during an address at a public interactive programme in Bengaluru, CM Kumaraswamy, who was in Delhi, promised to take strict action.

Kumaraswamy.Kumaraswamy categorically stated, "Whether Muthalik or anyone, if he or she violates the law and supports illegal activities, we are going to take strict action against them."

Addressing a public meet, Muthalik said, "Sri Ram Sene doesn’t have any role in the murder of Gauri Lankesh. Everyone is saying that Hindu groups conspired to kill Gauri Lankesh. But two murders in Maharashtra and two in Karnataka took place during Congress’s regime. But no one is saying anything about the Congress government’s failure. Instead they ask why PM Modi has kept mum about her murder. Why should PM Modi react? Do you expect Modi to respond everytime a dog dies in Karnataka?"

According to reports, Muthalik later clarified his comment stating that he did not make any direct comparison.

Many leaders such as Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani took to social media to vent their anger. Jignesh tweeted - The remarks made by BJP’s Pramod Muthalik are too obnoxious to talk about. Comparing Gauri Lankesh with a dog shows the cultural filth they have accumulated all these years. Since Prime minister is following the ones who abuse dead Gauri on twitter we don’t have any hopes on him.

Likewise, Prakash Raj who has consistenly taken on PM Modi and usually uses Twitter to express his feelings and frustration says in a tweet - SHAME..SHAME..Is supreme leader..his party president and its law makers elated that one more has joined the gang of " dog remark " users ...who can stoop low..against who ever questions them....or disagree with their ideology.... #justasking.....

In the state, both Congress and JD(S) leaders derided Muthalik for his below the belt statement on the slain journalist.

While minister DK Shivakumar said that since the SIT is conducting an investigation, it is not right for Muthalik to speak in this manner, his counterpart in the council CM Ibrahim slammed Muthalik saying, "He is a brainless person. The courts must be proactive and action must be taken against him."

The JD(S) as well took on Muthalik. Newly inducted MLC Farooq added, "He is a no one. He just wants publicity and that is why he makes such statements."

BJP state President BS Yeddyurappa decided to stay mum when India Today asked him about Muthalik’s controversial comment. His party MP Pralhad Joshi defended Muthalik. He said, "I do not think he meant it in that way. According to me, he just said that Modiji is blamed for everything which is what is happening."

Of late, Karnataka has witnessed many other smaller fringe groups that have raised their tentacles to create mayhem. Groups such as Hindu Jagaran Vedike, Bajarang Dal, Popular Front of India and the Social Democratic Party of India along with the Sriram Sene have literally become a law unto themselves.

From putting a full stop to Sunny Leone performing in Bengaluru to deciding if youngsters from one community can mingle with those from another community, successive state governments have miserably failed in keeping these groups under control.
