Kejriwal meets family of Mohammad Akhlaq who was lynched by mob in Dadri

New Delhi, Oct 03, 2015: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today met the family of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was beaten to death by a mob earlier this week over rumours that his family stored and consumed beef.

The AAP leader also met a few of the women residents in Bisara village. He was accompanied by senior leaders Sanjay Singh and Ashutosh.

Kejriwal, after meeting Akhlaq’s family, told reporters, “What has happened here is very wrong. It is against humanity.”

“Who benefited from this? Not the Hindus. Not the Muslims. Only political parties and political leaders benefited from this incident,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal was stopped from entering the village in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, by authorities citing protests and tension in the village. The CM was instead escorted to a guest house far away from the village.

Kejriwal vented his frustration on Twitter and asked as to why he was singled out from entering the village when leaders like Union Minister Mahesh Sharma and MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi had been allowed to do so.

“I m being accused of doing politics. Yes, i am doing politics.But i m doing politics of unity and love. They r doing politics of hatred (sic),” wrote Kejriwal on the micro-blogging platform. He added that Hindus and Muslims must remain united and not become vote-banks. -

But later, accompanied by the state police, Kejriwal met Akhlaq’s family and shared their grief.

Contingents of Provincial Armed Constabulary and state police have been deployed across the village where prohibitory orders banning assembly of five or more people continued to be in force.
