On the same day, bypolls will also be held in Sabang in West Bengal, Sikandra in Uttar Pradesh, and Likabali and Pakke Kasang in Arunanchal Pradesh.

Votes will be counted on December 24.

A bypoll had been scheduled to be held in RK Nagar on April 12, but it was cancelled after Income Tax raids uncovered evidence of massive corruption and bribery.

UNITED AIADMK FACTION GETS PARTY SYMBOL

The announcement of a fresh bypoll comes only a day after the Election Commission announced in an 83-page document that AIADMK’s party symbol had been issued to Madhusudhanan, the Presidium Chairman who challenged VK Sasikala’s appointment as the party’s interim general secretary. Madhusudhanan belongs to a party faction led by Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam.

The other faction is led by VK Sasikala and TTV Dhinakaran.

"The said group led by Shri E Madhusudhanan, will be entitled to use the name of the party, ’All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’ and its reserves symbol," the poll panel said.

The Election Commission had frozen the ’two leaves’ - or ’rettai ilai’ - symbol in March ahead of the first by-election. That happened after two factions* of Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK -  VK Sasikala’s* and O Panneerselvam’s - laid claim to it.

Later in the month, Dhinarakan, was arrested by Delhi Police. He wasaccused of trying to bribe an Election Commission official in an attempt to get the symbol for his faction.

He was granted bail in June.

CANDIDATES FOR THE RK NAGAR BYPOLL

The united AIADMK - the Palaniswami-Panneerselvam combine - will field Madhusudhanan. The TTV Dhinakaran faction will announce the name of its candidate tomorrow.

The DMK is expected to field the same candidate that it did for the April bypoll .
