India reports 11,831 fresh Covid-19 cases, 84 deaths in 24 hours; over 58 lakh vaccinated

New Delhi, Feb 08, 2021:      India’s Covid-19 infection tally climbed to 1,08,38,194, with 11,831 fresh cases reported in a day, while 1,05,34,505 people have recuperated so far, pushing the national recovery rate to over 97 per cent, according to Union Health Ministry data on Monday.

The death toll climbed to 1,55,080, with the novel coronavirus claiming 84 lives in a span of 24 hours in the country, the data showed. The Covid-19 case fatality rate stood at 1.43 per cent.

"Even with its population of 130 crore, India has managed to keep its losses lesser than the USA, and other
countries in Latin America and Europe," Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has said.

According to the Health Ministry data, there are 1,48,609 active cases in the country, which accounts for nearly 1.37 per cent of the total caseload.

On Sunday, India reported 12,059 fresh coronavirus infections, and 78 fatalities (the lowest single-day deaths in nine months) in a span of 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the number of healthcare and frontline workers vaccinated against coronavirus has crossed the 58 lakh-mark since the immunisation drive began on January 16.

According to Health Ministry data, 58,12,362 people have been inoculated while no adverse events following immunisation (AEFIs) have been reported so far.

On Sunday, the Health Ministry said India was now the third topmost country with the highest doses of Covid-19 vaccine administered after the US and the UK.
