India’s death toll has also crossed 90,000 after the fresh single-day deaths, according to data furnished by the health ministry. It may be noted that active cases have reduced since yesterday and currently stands at 9,68,377. Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries have gone up to 45,87,613. The Jodhpur district administration and the municipal corporation has launched a campaign to create awareness among public regarding Covid-19. As part of the campaign, the administration carried posters that said “no mask, no entry” and “no mask, no service”. Commenting on the new awareness campaign, Jodhpur District Collector told news agency ANI that awareness is necessary to prevent spread of Covid-19 cases.
The health ministry data also indicates that 14 states in India that have conducted higher tests per million (TPM) have shown lower positivity rates. Some of these states are Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Sikkim, Tripura, J&K (UT), Odisha, Assam, Punjab and Uttarakhand. "Several states/UTs have demonstrated better Covid-19 response with higher Tests Per Million (TPM) and commensurate lower positivity rate than the national average," the health ministry said.
Over the past few days, India has significantly ramped up testing, resulting in early detection of Covid-19 cases in the country. According to the government, higher testing and early detection has helped some states lower the positivity rate and added that it could significantly help in limiting the rapid rise of Covid-19 cases in the country. While India is still recording the highest number of daily Covid-19 cases in the world, the fact that it reported the lowest single-day rise in almost a month on Tuesday is a good sign of cases falling in the country. All eyes will be on today’s daily numbers, which will provide more insight into whether Covid-19 cases in India are falling.
The health ministry on Wednesday said India’s testing capacity has surged to more than 12 lakh daily tests and is in line with the government’s goal of early detection of Covid-19 cases. Over 6.5 crore tests have been conducted overall in the county. The health ministry also said that several stats and UTs have demonstrated better Covid-19 response with higher tests per million (TPM) and also enjoy a lower positivity rate than the national average.
