India records 96,550 new cases in biggest spike, tally over 45 lakh

New Delhi, Sep 11, 2020: The major drive of a national sero survey conducted by ICMR in May has shown that over 64 lakh people were infected in May. India currently has an official coronavirus count of over 45 lakh cases. Meanwhile, Centre has revised its guidelines of students appearing for examinations in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic and said symptomatic students will have to be taken to a healthcare centre for treatment while the university will have to look for other means to help them appear in the examination. After remaining shut for over nearly 6 months, the Magenta Line and Grey Line train routes on Delhi Metro have also resumed services. This comes after Yellow Line, Blue Line and other major routes were opened up days earlier as part of Unlock 4. Meanwhile, China has approved the trials of a nasal spray vaccine against coronavirus. China’s nasal spray coronavirus vaccine is expected to start Phase I clinical trials in November and around 100 volunteers are being recruited for the process.

Less than 1% population exposed to virus, India in early stage of epidemic: ICMR survey

A nationwide sero survey conducted by ICMR has shown more people in rural India were infected by Covid-19 compared to urban areas. (PTI)

Among the 45 lakh confirmed cases, India now has 9,43,480 active coronavirus cases and 35,42,663 recovered or discharged cases. The country now has a recovery rate of 77.65%.
India has recorded the biggest single-day spike so far, of 96,551 coronavirus cases in a day, which has taken the country’s tally to 45,62,415. The death toll has also 1,209 and is now at 76,271.

Telangana: 2,426 new coronavirus cases and 13 death have been reported in the state in the past 24 hours. Total cases now stand at 1,52,602 with 940 deaths and 32,195 active cases.

A total of 5,40,97,975 samples tested up to 10th September 2020. Of these, 11,63,542 samples were tested yesterday: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Kerala Health Minister KK Shylaja has said that there is a possibility of more deaths due to Covid-19 in Kerala. She has also said that there will be a shortage of ventilators if more elderly people get infected.

There has been an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 recoveries in India. There is more than 100% increase in patients recovered and discharged in the past 29 days: Ministry of Health.
