India records 30,570 new Covid-19 cases, 431 deaths in 24 hours

New Delhi, Sep 16, 2021: India registered 30,570 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s overall tally to 3,33,47,325, showed the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare early Thursday.

According to the data, the number of cases reported on Thursday was 12.5 per cent higher than that reported on Wednesday.

The top five states which registered the maximum cases of the novel coronavirus are Kerala with 17,681 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 3,783 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,658 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 1,445 cases and Mizoram with 1,402 cases.

As many as 84.95 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 57.84 per cent of the new cases.

Meanwhile, 431 more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, pushing the nation’s toll to 4,43,928. The maximum casualties were reported in Kerala (208), followed by Maharashtra with 56 daily deaths.

The last time the daily toll was higher than this was on September 2, 2021, i.e. 14 days ago, when India had reported 509 deaths.

Besides, a total of 38,303 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries to 3,25,60,474 across the country. India’s recovery rate now stands at 97.64 per cent.

With fresh cases and recoveries, the country’s active caseload declined by 8,164 to 3,42,923 in the last 24 hours.

India has administered a total of 64,51,423 doses in the last 24 hours. A total of 76,57,17,137 doses have been administered in the country so far.

A total of 15,79,761 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
