Active cases rose by 7,598 in this period even as 36,367 people recovered from the disease.

With this, the country’s Covid tally rose to 92.6 lakh. Up to 1,35,223 people have also lost their lives to the viral disease since the outbreak in January.

Though India’s average daily coronavirus case count has hovered around the 45,000-mark for the better part of November, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued fresh guidelines for states to ensure Covid-safe behaviour, especially within containment zones, starting December 1.
The guidelines were issued as many smaller states, especially those with fewer, more controlled infection numbers till now started registering a spike, fanning worry about a possible second wave in the country.

The permission for state governments to impose night curfews and double down on mask wearing came as states like Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh imposed the restrictions.

Delhi has been adding the biggest numbers to India’s Covid tally for the past month, which also saw its highest ever daily case count at 8,600. In the last 24 hours, the city-state registered 5,246 fresh infections with 99 deaths.
