IAS officer DK Ravi’s death: NGO files complaint against his father-in-law

Mangalore Today News Network

Bengaluru, April 1, 2015: In yet another twist to the sensational death of young IAS officer D.K. Ravi, a case was filed against his father-in-law.

DK RaviAn NGO, Vishwa Kannada Samaja, has urged the Bengaluru police to probe Hanumantharayappa for alleged destruction of evidence. The NGO sought to know why the IAS officer’s father-in-law had not reported to the investigating agency that the CID police had tampered with CCTV footage at Ravi’s home.

Vishwa Kannada Samaja founder S. Anand, in his complaint, alleged that Hanumantharayappa’s actions were perplexing. "During investigation the CID officer Kumaraswamy had impounded CCTV footage of Ravi’s home without anyone’s approval. Though the equipment was returned, it has been found that the footage was tampered with," he added.

Anand felt Ravi’s father-in-law should have immediately brought the matter to the notice of the non-jurisdictional police. "It was imperative on the part of Hanumantharayappa to file a police complaint against the CID for tampering with the footage. He remained silent at a time when the whole state wanted an impartial probe into Ravi’s death," Anand said.

Incidentally, Hanumantharayappa, a Congress leader, had alleged that the CID police had deleted CCTV footage of his home after taking possession of the same. "They returned the equipment after obtaining my signature but I was shocked to find that the footage before 10.30 am on March 16 was deleted. When I enquired about it, they said specific files were not opening.

All the four CCTV cameras are connected to the inverter and if they had found the footage of March 15, they would have found Ravi shouting over the phone. I suspect they have deleted the footage intentionally," the Congress leader had alleged.

With the CBI all set to take over investigation of the case, the city police have decided to refer Anand’s complaint to the central agency.

Ravi was found dead under mysterious circumstances on March 16 at his official residence in Bengaluru. While the state government contended that he committed suicide because of personal reasons, his family members and the Opposition did not buy the theory. Ravi had previously faced threats from the sand mafia.
