High drama as Nithyananda’s potency tested

Bangalore, Sep 09, 2014 DHNS: After dodging Criminal Investigating Department (CID) for three and a half years, self-styled godman Nithyananda finally underwent a potency test at the Institute of Nephro-Urology at state-run Victoria Hospital campus here on Monday.

Nithyananda, charge-sheeted by the CID for rape, cheating and other offences, arrived at hospital at 7:50 am and remained there till around 5:30 pm.

Hospital sources said Nithyananda underwent blood, semen, hair and urine tests and examination of his genitals.

High drama prevailed on the busy Mysore-Bangalore road on Monday morning when television channel crew followed the cars which left Nithyananda’s ashram at Bidadi towards Victoria Hospital.

They were under the impression that Nithyananda was in one of the vehicles. The mediapersons realised that they had been hoodwinked by Nithyananda when one of the cars met with a freak accident.

Nithyananda had sent one of his disciples, clad in saffron, in a car along with some of his followers only to divert the attention of the media crew that was waiting for him outside his ashram.

Later, Nithyananda arrived in hospital in another car.

After the day-long potency test, he was taken to Forensic Science Laboratory at Madiwala for voice analysis test.

Nithyananda had been objecting to both tests, and had even moved the Supreme Court seeking relief.

However, on September 3, 2014, the apex court directed Nithyananda to undergo potency test.

Dr T Durganna, medical superintendent, Victoria Hospital, who refused to divulge details of the potency test, said that a team of six doctors conducted the test. “The report would be submitted in a day or two to the CID,” he added.
