Uttar Pradesh: Meanwhile, the situation continues to be alarming in Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur and Barabanki districts today where rising water levels have displaced lakhs of people and hundreds have gone missing.

Hundreds of villages have been affected in Balrampur and Barabanki districts where River Rapti and River Ghagra crossed the danger mark today.

The overflowing water has entered 85 villages in Bahraich and 72 villages in Shravasti.

The increase in water levels in Rapti is due to excess water being released from Bhalubang, Bhairahwa and Kusum barrages in Nepal while the water level in Ghagra has crossed the danger mark after flood water from Chisapani barrage in Nepal was released, as per a news report.

The Centre had issued a warning of “high flood situation” on Saturday after the water level in River Rapti increased.

Three helicopters were also kept on standby for rescue operations in Gorakhpur.

Bihar: Thousands of people continued to be affected in Bihar’s Darbhanga, West Champaran and Nalanda districts after breaches in the embankments of Kamla Balan and Gandak rivers respectively.

The overflowing of Panchane river caused floods in Nalanda where the situation is reportedly termed as “grim”.

Thousands of people are being evacuated and relief and rescue operations in the area are on.
