Fight between PM Modi and ‘anarchist combination’ of Opposition parties: Jaitley

New Delhi, May 26, 2018 : India’s politics this year will focus on the fight between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the “anarchist combination” of Opposition parties uniting to challenge him in the 2019 elections, finance minister Arun Jaitley has said.

 

“The last few days have witnessed a discussion about a ‘fictional alternative’. A group of disparate political parties are promising to come together. Stable politics is far from their political track record,” said Jaitley in a post on his Facebook page, referring to Opposition parties who put up a show of unity at the swearing-in ceremony of the Janata Dal (Secular) and Congress coalition government in Karnataka.

“A strong nation and the requirements of good governance abhor anarchy. A federal front is a failed idea,” said Jaitley on the fourth anniversay of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

“As we enter the fifth year of the Government, the NDA’s priorities are clear. This will be our year of consolidation of the policies and programmes which we have implemented,” said Jaitley from his hospital bed while recuperating after a kidney transplant. “The political agenda for the debate this year appropriately will be Prime Minister “Modi versus an anarchist combination.”

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, BSP chief Mayawati, SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, RLD leader Ajit Singh and CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury were among politicians who attended the new Karnataka government’s swearing-in on Wednesday.

Jaitley, as he recuperates, has temporarily handed over charge of the finance ministry to Piyush Goel.?
