NEW DELHI: Jan.20: The controversy around former defence minister George Fernandes refuses to die down. Even as his family and friends squabble over the legal versus the moral, Fernandes’s deteriorating health seems to be the last thing on most minds.
In the latest turn of events, Fernandes’s wife Leila has whisked him to Baba Ramdev’s ashram in Haridwar. Whether the alternative therapy will reverse Fernandes’s worsening Alzheimer’s condition remains in the realm of unknown. The well-known miracle man, best known for curing ’any’ disease with his knowledge of yogasutra, will put his skills to test on one of India’s tallest socialist leaders.
Meanwhile, old-time friend, comrade and former MP Beatrix D’Souza has decided to extend his support to Jaya Jaitly and Fernandes’s brothers. In a letter sent to Fernandes’s lawyer, a copy of which is with TOI, D’Souza wrote, "I was shocked to see the news. He has often spoken to me about his wish to dispose of whatever assets he has for the poor and needy."
