Cyclone Hikka develops in Arabian Sea, heavy rainfall likely in AP and K’taka in next 24hrs

Hyderabad, Sep 23, 2019: Heavy rainfall is set to lash parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat during next 48 hours, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said. In its weather bulletin, the IMD said a deep depression has been formed in the Arabian sea which intensified into Cyclonic Storm ’Hikka’. The cyclonic storm lay centered near Veraval in Gujarat, 430 km south-southwest of Karachi (Pakistan) and 760 km east-southeast of Masirah in Oman as to Yahoo.

Under the influence of the weather condition, squally wind, speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph are very likely to prevail along and off Gujarat coast during next 24 hours. The IMD informed that Cyclone Hikka is moving at a speed of about 17 kilometres an hour and is expected to make landfall in Oman on Wednesday morning, i.e. September 25. After intensifying for a 24-hour period, the Cyclone will lose strength and gradually dissipate. "Cylone Hikka is very likely to move nearly westwards and reach Oman coast by 25th September early morning. It is likely to intensify further during next 24 hours and weaken gradually thereafter", the IMD said.
