According to the sources in the hospital, the dead included 15 new born children, who were admitted to the neonatal ward, and five others who were admitted to the Encephalitis ward.

Sources said that the maximum number of deaths took place on Monday. As 24 children died on Monday alone. The officials at the Medical College, which was in the eye of the storm following the death of 30 children owing to alleged shortage of oxygen last week, attributed the deaths to medical causes.

According to the officials, around 145 people, mostly children, have died from Encephalitis since the beginning of this year. So far around 550 patients had been admitted to the hospital with Encephalitis this year. Over sixty patients were still being treated at the Encephalitis ward, they added.

The hospital authorities had warned the doctors and employees against speaking to the media and said that stern action would be taken against them if they were found to be interacting with the journalist, who had been flocking the hospital for the past few days after the tragedy.

30 children, mostly new born, had died allegedly owing to shortage of oxygen at the hospital in a period of 36-hours between Thursday and Friday.

The deaths sparked a nationwide outrage and the opposition parties demanded the resignation of the chief minister Yogi Adityanath. The government denied that the children had died owing to shortage of oxygen.

UP government suspended principal of the medical college Dr R.K.Mishra and shunted out the in-charge of the Encephalitis ward Dr Kafeel Khan on charges of laxity. A high-level probe was also ordered into the tragedy.
