COVID-19: Delhi schools, colleges, cinema halls shut till 31 March

New Delhi, Mar 12, 2020: Invoking provisions of the Epidemic Disease Act, the Delhi government on Thursday announced that all cinema halls, schools, colleges (whose examinations have been held) in Delhi will be closed till 31 March.

The government’s immediate concern is to contain and control coronavirus, there is no need to panic, the MEA said on Thursday, 12 March, in a briefing, Yahoo reported.

The Government is fully vigilant about the situation due to COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus,” PM Modi wrote on Twitter on Thursday.

The Indian Council of Medical Research on Thursday, 12 March said that they have managed to isolate the coronavirus and that they have 11 such isolates.

“Vaccines will take a minimum of 1.5 to 2 years,” The Indian Council of Medical Research further said.

"Indian nationals are strongly advised to refrain from non-essential travel,” the Health Ministry said, in a briefing on Thursday.

As the virus sweeps the globe, the S&P BSE Sensex opened 5.1 percent lower at 33,876 today, the lowest level since 31 October 2018. The NSE Nifty 50 index opened below the 10,000 mark too, reported Bloomberg Quint.
