CBSE - XII results: Delhi girl tops scoring 99.2 percent

New Delhi, May 25: M Gayatri, a student of New Green Field School in New Delhi’s Saket area  has scored the highest marks in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII examination this year.

Gayatri scored a stunning score of 496 out of 500, clocking a massive 99.2 percent in her exams.

As celebrations erupted at her home and school, the teenager said she was confident of scoring above 95 percent marks, but had never expected to be the All India top ranker.

"I used to study like a normal student regularly for five to six hours a day. But I never took tuition for any subject. My teachers helped me a lot. They used to clarify our doubts on a regular basis, give us

sample papers for practice, and would also check them and give feedback regarding the same. My parents also supported me," Gayatri told ANI.

"Right now, I am preparing for Chartered Accountant (CA) exam," she added.

Earlier in the day, the CBSE announced the Class XII results for 2015. The pass percentage this year is 82 percent overall with girls again outshining boys with a pass percentage of 87.56 percent compared to 77.77 percent.

"The pass percentage of CBSE Class XII, 2015, is 82 percent which is marginally lower than that of last year which was 82.70 percent. And you can see that the difference is more than 9.79 percent. The pass percentage of regular candidates is 83.4 percent and that of private students is 41.22 percent," said CBSE spokesperson Rama Sharma.

"CBSE has ten regional offices and the performance of schools located under the jurisdiction of regional office Thiruvananthapuram, which are Kerala and Lakshwadeep, all those schools affiliated with the board under this region have got the highest pass percentage which is 95.41 percent," she added.

Over 10 lakh candidates appeared for the Class XII exams this year.

The CBSE Class 10 examination results are also likely to be announced in a few days.
