Bengaluru cases double in 5 days, stricter norms likely post-July 7

Bengaluru, Jun 29, 2020: Coronavirus cases in Bengaluru city of Karnataka have doubled in the past five days. On June 23, Bengaluru had 1,556 coronavirus positive cases and in the next five days, the Covid-19 cases doubled to 3,419, Karnataka Minister Sudhakar K said.

As the coronavirus cases continue to rise in Karnataka and Bengaluru, the state government has planned to implement stricter norms in the state post-July 7. The restrictions are likely to be imposed post the ongoing SSLC board exams.

The Karnataka minister also said that Bengaluru alone constitutes 25.92 per cent of the total coronavirus cases in Karnataka. The state has so far reported 13,190 coronavirus cases. Of the total coronavirus cases in Karnataka, 5476 are active cases and 7,507 have cured.

"Bengaluru had 1556 #COVID19 cases as on Jun 23 which has doubled to 3419 cases as on Jun 28. Bengaluru now constitutes 25.92% of total cases in Karnataka. State Govt is taking all measures to ensure that every Covid patient gets best treatment," the Karnataka minister said.

Minister R Ashok, Bangalore Covid19 in charge, said, "You all wait till July 7. There’ll be more norms. CM BS Yediyurappa will announce it. We are told that parks are turning out to be a spread location [of coronavirus]. So we are rethinking on these lines."

The Karnataka government has also told the health officials and doctors to be prepared mentally to work the same way for the next six months. The government says Covid-19 crisis is going to stay till December.

R Ashok also said that the salaries of the hospital and cleaning staff might be increased.

Minister R Ashok said, "The government is also keen on increasing salary for hospital staff like ambulance drivers, cleaning staff. Anyone who wears PPE kits and work, their salary might be increased."

Meanwhile, Bengaluru Police said criminal cases will be filed against those flouting face masks and social distancing rules and the public can call the police in case someone refuses to follow the COVID-19 preventive norms in the city.
