BMTC conducts random COVID-19 tests on crew after 16 staff test positive

Bengaluru, Jun 26, 2020: India on Friday (June 26, 2020) saw its highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases with 17,296 new cases being reported. The number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in India has crossed 4.90 lakh.

As per the Union health ministry, as of 9 am on June 26, the number of Covid-19 cases in India stands at 4,90,401 including 1,89,463 active cases, 2,85,637 cured/discharged/migrated and 15301 deaths.

Among states, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are the hotspots for Covid-19 cases. Maharashtra and Gujarat have also reported the highest number of Covid-19 deaths, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the country’s COVID-19 toll.

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has started conducting random coronavirus tests for its crew members after 16 employees contracted the pathogen in the past fortnight. "We started the random testing of our crew members from Saturday after 16 members were found infected with COVID-19, since June 11," a BMTC official told PTI.
