BJP meet in City to plot Assembly poll strategy

Mangalore Today News Network

Bengaluru, April 2, 2015 DHNS: The two-day BJP national executive meeting on April 3 and 4 in Bengaluru will discuss, among other issues, strategy for the crucial Assembly elections to be held in Bihar and other states next year..

BJP meet.It will also take stock of the performance of its government led by Narendra Modi at the Centre. The national executive will also do a post-mortem of the party’s drubbing in the Delhi Assembly elections.

The debacle had been a rude shock to the BJP, which was riding high on its success in the Lok Sabha polls. Almost all top leaders, including Modi, Shah and L K Advani, will go into a huddle. The party’s national office-bearers’ meeting will be held on April 2.
Assembly elections are likeliest to be held in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry in 2016, and in Bihar this year.

The BJP has an ambitious plan to foray into West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, where regional parties TMC and AIADMK are in power. The party has high hopes from Assam, too, after its surprise success in the Lok Sabha polls.

In Bihar, it is looking to settle scores with friend-turned-foe JD(U). The BJP has to win all these elections to bolster its number in the Rajya Sabha—which Modi needs badly to push through his reform agenda. The two-day conclave will also chalk out an action plan to spread the party’s wings in West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, where the party is weak.

“We now want to expand our base in these states. The national executive will discuss threadbare all issues in this regard and prepare an action plan,” BJP national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao told reporters on Wednesday. He said the meeting would discuss consolidating the party’s electoral gains so far and the success of the party’s nationwide membership campaign currently underway.

The national executive will also draw up a plan on conveying to the people the Modi’s government’s achievements in the last 10 months.
