Ayodhya verdict: Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha to move SC

Lucknow, Oct 9, (DHNS): Even as some litigants in the Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute are exploring possibilities of an amicable solution, the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha has decided to challenge the verdict in the case before the apex court by the end of this month or early next month.

"We will file an appeal against the High Court order in the apex court by the end of this month," ABHM state president Kamlesh Tiwari told PTI today. He said that the Mahasabha was firm on its stand not to allow division of the land in three parts.

"It would be better if the entire land is given to Ramlala," Tiwari said. He said that the Mahasabha was ready for a mutual discussion only on one condition that the Sunni Central Waqf Board withdraws its claim from the land.

"If they (Muslims) leave their claim then we will provide double land for the construction of the mosque," the ABHM state president said. "As of now no positive and meaningful effort is being made to find an amicable solution to the dispute," he said.

The Sunni Waqf Board has already announced that it will move apex court against the HC verdict.

The decision to move to SC was taken during an emergency meeting of the Board chaired by its president Zafar Ahmad Farooqui on October 5. The Board is likely to file its appeal by the end of this month or early November.

Waqf Board’s counsel Zafaryab Jilani had already said that Muslims will not surrender their claim of a mosque in Ayodhya. "We are not going to give any proposal for an out of court settlement. If there is any proposal it has to come from the opposite party and that too in the framework of Shariyat (Islamic law)," he said.

However, those in favour of an out-of-the court settlement are still hopeful of an amicable solution. One of the oldest litigant Hashim Ansari met Mahant of Nirmohi Akahara today and had a detailed discussion.

In fact two main parties in Ayodhya title suits--Hashim Ansari and Nirmohi Akhara--besides the Ram Janmbhoomi Trust have claimed to have discussed an amicable formula for settlement of the mandir-mosque dispute.

The representatives of Nirmohi Akhara - Panch Ram Das, Ram Janmbhoomi Trust member Ramvilas Vedanti and Hashim Ansari held a meeting at residence of Hanuman Ghari Mahant Gyan Das yesterday and later claimed that they have reached a forumla, which they think would be acceptable to both Hindus and Muslims.

"We have devised a solution to the dispute keeping in mind sentiments people of both Hindu and muslim communities. And we have also taken into account court’s verdict on the issue" Gyan Das told reporters after over one and a half hour meeting at his Hanuman Gari residence.

In Ayodhya, VHP leader Ram Vilas Vedanti suggested if Muslims want to build a mosque, they can construct it at Shahenwa village, 10-km from the holy city. The VHP would not tolerate any temple within a radius of five miles of the proposed Ram temple, he said.

Reacting to this, oldest litigant in the title suit Hashim Ansari said though he was trying for an amicable solution, he did not favour building the mosque at some other place. "We want our mosque adjacent to the proposed Ram temple,” he said.

Some Muslim parties were of the view that both temple and mosque should be constructed at the same place. Ram Das, chief priest of the Nirmohi Akhara, said a solution to the issue would be arrived and "temple and mosque will be build side by side”.

On VHP’s stand not to allow any mosque near the Ram temple, he said "some extremist forces are trying to damage the peace process". "But, our efforts will be appreciated by the whole world and we will deliver a message of communal harmony and peaceful co-existence to the universe."
