New Delhi, Nov 25, 2020:    A day after the Centre blocked 43 Chinese mobile apps, the Chinese embassy in India has said China opposes India’s “repeated use of national security as an excuse” to ban mobile apps with Chinese background.

In a response to media query, spokesperson of the Chinese embassy in India Counselor Ji Rong said, “We firmly oppose the Indian side’s repeated use of “national security” as an excuse to prohibit some Mobile apps with Chinese background.”

“The Chinese government has always required overseas Chinese companies to abide by international rules, operate in compliance with laws and regulations and conform to public order and good morals,” said the Chinese embassy in its statement.

On Tuesday, India blocked another batch of 43 Chinese mobile apps, including Alibaba Group Holding’s e-commerce app AliExpress, in a fresh wave of web sanctions amid its border standoff with China.

The banned applications, which include a few dating apps, were a threat to the "sovereignty and integrity of India", said an official government statement.

The Chinese embassy has said in response, “We hope the Indian side provides a fair, impartial and non-discriminatory business environment for all market players from various countries including China, and rectify the discriminatory practices violating WTO rules.”

“China and India are the opportunities of development to each other rather than threats. Both sides should bring bilateral economic and trade relations back to the right path for mutual benefit and win-win results on the basis of dialogue and negotiation,” said the embassy.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the IT ministry said the government issued an order under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act blocking access to 43 mobile apps.

"This action was taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order," the release said.

The latest list of 43 mobile apps include AliSuppliers Mobile App, Alibaba Workbench, AliExpress, Alipay Cashier, CamCard (Business Card Reader), Snack Video, and several dating apps such as WeDate, Chinese Social, TrulyChinese, ChinaLove, DateMyAge, FlirtWish and Guys Only Dating.

Other apps that have been blocked include Tubit, WeWorkChina, First Love Live, Rela, Cashier Wallet, Jellipop Match, Munchkin Match and Happy Fish.
