All eyes on Parliament as TDP, YSR Congress prepare for no-confidence vote

New Delhi, Mar 20, 2018 : The Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress have asked all their MPs to be present in Parliament today for a vote on a motion of no-confidence against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s NDA government.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has warned his TDP lawmakers there’s a "possibility" that "they (presumably a reference to the BJP) let some other parties create (a) din and adjourn the House sine die*," ANI reported.

The no-trust vote didn’t happen Monday since the Lok Sabha was adjourned following a ruckus in the House.

"All the TDP MPs must be present in the Parliament," Naidu reportedly told MPs during a tele-conference. "See those MPs of other parties also attend the House and that other parties also give notices for (the) no-confidence motion."

The YSR Congress’ chief whip, too, has asked MPs to ensure full attendance, and to vote in favour of the motion.

These two Andhra parties have been demanding a special package for their state - an issue on which the TDP quit the NDA alliance last week.

BJP minister Ananth Kumar said the government was ready to face the vote.

"The Modi government is ready to face the no-confidence motion. We have support outside as well as inside the House. The BJP government is a government of (the) majority. And when we consider the NDA, we have (a) two-thirds majority," Kumar told reporters outside Parliament Monday.
