Abdul Kalam Memorial, Ayodhya to Rameswaram express train flagged off by PM Modi

Chennai, July 27, 2017 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Tamil Nadu visit on Thursday flagged off a new express train, Shraddha Sethu Express, that connects the two important pilgrimage centres of Rameswaram and Ayodhya at a distance of 2921 km. The new train was flagged off by PM Modi via video conferencing at Mandapam. The train has been flagged off today, that is on July 27, but regular services will commence from August 2, 2017.

Kalam Memorial


PM Modi is in Rameswaram to inaugurate a series of projects, the most prominent of which is a memorial dedicated to former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The multi-crore memorial has been inaugurated on the second death anniversary of Kalam. Built by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the memorial has on display replicas of missiles and rockets on which the late scientist, also known as the “missile man” had worked.

During his visit, PM Modi is also dedicating to the nation a 9.5 km-long Link Road to NH 87, which runs between Mukundarayar Chathiram and Arichalmunai. PM Modi is also distributing sanction letters to the beneficiaries of long liner trawlers under the Blue Revolution scheme. He is also releasing a synopsis of the Green Rameswaram Project

Train No. 16794 Rameswaram-Faizabad-Rameswaram (via Ayodhya) will depart from Faizabad at 23:55 hrs o­n every Wednesday and arrive Rameswaram at 08:50 hrs on Saturday with effect from August 2, 2017. In the return direction, Train No. 16793 Rameswaram-Faizabad weekly Express will depart Rameswaram at 23:50 hrs o­n every Sunday and arrive Faizabad at 08:30 hrs on Wednesday with effect from August 6, 2017.

The train will have 18 coaches consisting of one AC II-tier, two AC-III tier, eight sleeper, two General second class, One Pantry car and two luggage-cum-brake vans. It will stop at Manamadurai, Thiruchirapalli, Thanjavur, Villupuram, Chennai Egmore, Gudur, Vijayawada, Warangal, Ballarshah, Nagpur, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Satna, Allahabad, Jaunpur, Ayodhya stations in both the directions.
