90,632 new coronavirus cases in highest single-day rise in India

New Delhi, September 6, 2020: India has reported a record single-day jump of 90,632 coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, taking the country’s total tally to over 41 lakh, the health ministry data showed on Sunday morning.

A total of 1,065 people died from the virus in the past 24 hours. Since the pandemic began in the country, 70,626 people have succumbed to the virus. According to the health ministry, India’s total tally stands at 41,13,812 with 8,62,320 active cases of the coronavirus.

According to the health ministry, there has been a steep exponential rise in coronavirus recoveries -- from 50,000 in May to 30 lakh in September. The ministry has said that the daily number of recovered coronavirus patients has crossed 70,000.

With a rapid increase in the daily coronavirus cases, India is nearing Brazil as the second most affected country in the world.

Meanwhile, the Himachal Pradesh government has issued SOPs for religious places in the state that are set to open from September 10. Religious places in the state were closed for general public on March 16 to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.

As per the three-page SOP issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Health) R D Dhiman, no physical offerings like prasad, distribution or sprinkling of holy water will be allowed inside the religious place.

The SOP said touching statues, idols and holy books will also not be allowed.

The health officials said on Saturday that Maharashtra reported the fastest growth is coronavirus infection in August, registering over 3.70 lakh cases.

According to data of the Maharashtra health department, the state reported 3,76,587 coronavirus cases last month, 2,41,820 cases in July and 1,04,748 cases in June.
