The Bogibeel Bridge, India’s longest and Asia’s second longest railroad bridge, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, December 25. On Wednesday, two speeding cars coming from different directions collided with each other.

About Bogibeel Bridge

The Bogibeel bridge was inaugurated on the 94th birth anniversary of former premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The 4.94-kilometre long bridge has been constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 5,900 crore. Former PM HD Deve Gowda had laid the foundation stone of the double-decker bridge on January 22, 1997. The two-track rail bridge will decrease the travel time between Delhi and Dibrugarh by three hours and the journey from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh to Assam would reduce by four hours. This is the fourth bridge on Brahmaputra river.

The Bridge consists of two railway tracks and three lanes for road transportation; this is the longest railroad bridge in India.
