6 Months after Release, Delhi Teen allegedly Kills again for Dance Show

New Delhi, Feb 05, 2016:  Six months after he was accused of kidnapping and killing a young boy, a 17-year-old has allegedly murdered an elderly woman in south Delhi. He had recently been released from a correction home.

The juvenile, along with his girlfriend, also 17, had in September last year allegedly abducted and murdered a 13-year-old boy for money which he needed to participate in a popular reality dance show.

He was detained and sent to a correction home from where he was released after two months for good behaviour, the police said.

65-year-old Mithilesh Jain, who lived alone in her first-floor house in BK Dutt colony, was found dead at home on Monday. The police at first thought she had died of natural causes.

Later, when her family reported that cash, jewellery and two mobile phones were missing from Mrs Jain’s house, the police began investigations into her death. An autopsy revealed that she had been strangled.

The police said they traced the juvenile when he switched on one of the phones that he had allegedly stolen from Mrs Jain. He was apprehended from his residence in Faridabad, near Delhi on Thursday.

On being questioned, the 17-year-old, a professional dancer,  allegedly told the police that he had killed the woman for money to participate in the reality dance show.

It was for money to participate in the dance show that the teen had also allegedly killed Swapnesh Gupta, 13, last year. The Delhi Police said the juvenile and his girlfriend had allegedly kidnapped the boy and taken him to Ranikhet in Uttarakhand.

Swapnesh was strangled with a belt and his body was pushed off a cliff. The couple had allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs. 60,000 from the boy’s father.
