Patna, Jul 19, 2019 : Three men were beaten to death this morning by locals in the Saran district of Bihar over suspicion of cattle theft, police said, NDTV reported.
Locals in Baniyapur village in the Saran district caught of hold of the three men at around 4:30 am and accused them of trying to steal their cattle.
The three men, who were from a neighbouring village, were moving around with a pick-up van, alleged locals.
They already had a cow in their pick-up van and they were trying to steal cattle from the village, locals alleged.
All three of them were beaten badly after the villagers caught hold of them. They were taken to a nearby hospital by the police in Chhapra; however, doctors said they were "brought dead".
Police said they have not yet verified if the thee men were previously involved in any criminal cases.
Family members of the men killed in mob attack have filed a first information report against the villagers. A police case has also been filed against the alleged cattle thieves by the villagers.
Bodies have been sent for postmortem. Earlier this month, a suspected cattle thief was beaten to death in a village in Tripura. Budhi Kumar Tripura, 36, was killed in a mob attack in Raishyabari, a border village of Tripura’s Dhalai district on July 2.
