Kolkata, Jan 21, 2021: A day after BJP workers were seen allegedly raising the slogan "TMC ke gaddaro ko, goli maro s***n ko" at Suvendu Adhikari’s rally in poll-bound West Bengal, three party activists, including Hooghly district youth wing chief Suresh Sahu, were arrested on Thursday, PTI reported.
Some BJP workers were caught on camera raising the provocative slogan at newly inducted BJP leader Adhikari’s roadshow in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Wednesday, following which the police registered a suo moto case.
The slogan was allegedly raised by the activists holding BJP flags and the Tricolour while they were trailing the truck carrying Adhikari, Hooghly MP Locket Chatterjee and Rajya Sabha member Swapan Dasgupta in the Rathtala area of the city.
BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said the party does not endorse the slogan raised by the participants holding the BJP flag.
The incident came a day after several videos went viral on social media showing a group of alleged TMC supporters raising the slogan "Bangla ka gaddaro ko, goli maro s***n ko" at a rally in south Kolkata. The slogan was seen as an apparent reference to the leaders who have switched over to the BJP.
Condemning the act, Bengal minister Firhad Hakim hinted that it could be the handiwork of outsiders.
"We don’t support it at all. There are some over-enthusiastic young supporters in every rally. But we don’t support such things. This is a BJP slogan that a central minister had raised. I have asked to find out whether they were actual TMC supporters or outsiders who infiltrated our rally. We believe in peace," Hakim had said.
Taking a dig at the TMC’s ’Peace Rally’, the state unit of the BJP said it witnessed rampant vandalism and tearing away of BJP flags and posters.
"Slogans like ’Goli Maro S****n Ko’ were heard in their ’Peace Rally’ in South Kolkata. Is this Pishi’s definition of ’peace’? This is how TMC is letting down the City of Joy?" the state unit of BJP tweeted sharing the video.
