24-year-old woman stabbed to death on road in Thane

Thane, May 07, 2015: A 24-year-old woman, Priyanka Jagtap, was stabbed to death with a kitchen knife by an unidentified person on a road leading to the old passport office in Wagle Estate on Wednesday afternoon.

 

The police said they were looking at CCTV footage to identify the killer.

"We have CCTV footage from one of the installations in the area and the suspect can be clearly seen in the footage," an officer said. "It will be shown to the family of the deceased to see if they can identify the killer."

The body was spotted by locals, who called the police.

"I was walking on the main road when I heard a girl screaming," a witness said, requesting anonymity. "As I reached the spot, I found the girl lying in a pool of blood. Soon, a crowd gathered at the spot and the police reached within five minutes."

A police officer said the deceased was attacked with a kitchen knife around 3pm. "The wounds suggest that she was stabbed more than five times by the perpetrator, who then fled the scene," ACP Uday Khanvilkar said.

He said a jilted lover might be behind the crime. The dog squad and the forensic team were pressed into service.
