16-Year-Old Girl Dragged Out of Home, Shot 9 Times in Front of Parents

Mangalore Today News Network

Chirang District, Aug 27, 2014:  A 16-year-old girl was dragged, beaten and shot at point blank range least nine times in front of her parents by militants of the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) faction in Assam’s Chirang district, who suspected the teenager of being a police informer.

AssamLast week, heavily armed militants dragged the teenager out of her house in Dwimugri village on the Indo-Bhutan border in broad daylight, and, reportedly, made her family watch the brutal killing. The family was forced not to turn their eyes away as the teen was shot several times, reports suggest.

The girl was killed as revenge of an incident earlier in the day where five cadres of the militant group were killed close by, allegedly after the girl supplied information to policemen about their whereabouts.

Reports also say that the girl’s body was lying in a field in the village for two days as her parents were afraid to retrieve it.

In June this year, a 35-year-old woman was executed by another militant group in Meghalaya, also on the suspicion of being a police informer. In that case, militants first molested the woman and then shot her multiple times in the head using automatic rifles.
