New Delhi, Dec 15, 2018 : Upset with PM Narendra Modi for attacking former Congress president Sonia Gandhi with his ‘widow’ comment, Mahila Congress workers are set to stage a protest against him during his maiden visit to Rae Bareli on December 16. The protests are expected to see the participation of heads of all state units of the organisation, reported NDTV.

In an election rally held in Rajasthan recently, Modi accused the Congress government of multiple scams, including in the Widow Pension Scheme, and asked “Ye Congress ki kaun si vidhwa thi jiske khate mein paisa jaata tha? (Which Congress widow got the money in her account?)”.

The obvious reference was to Sonia Gandhi, who was widowed with the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. Launching a scathing attack, he also accused the Congress of embezzling funds related to elderly people’s pension and students’ scholarships. His remarks generated great furore, especially on the social network, where the clip went viral.

Speaking to News18, Congress MLA from Raebareli (Sadar) and National General Secretary of Mahila Congress, Aditi Singh said, “The language used by PM Narendra Modi is unparliamentarily and we condemn all the baseless allegations made against Sonia Gandhi.”

In a sign of protest against Modi’s derogatory remarks, Aditi said the committee workers will be showing black flags to him outside the Rail Coach Factory where he will be flagging-off the newly-built railway coaches.

According to sources, during his visit, Modi is also expected to launch a fresh spate of attacks on the Gandhi family accusing them of corruption in his public address. After Rae Bareli, the PM will visit Prayagraj on the same day for monitoring the Kumbh preparations.
