Youth prefer military rule over democracy: Survey

Mangalore Today News Network

Bengaluru, Jan 23, 2015: In a survey conducted by a Bengaluru-based NGO, high school and college students across 11 cities prefer military rule over a democracy and a staggering 65 percent don’t approve of boys and girls from different religions mingling.

military.jpChildren’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA), conducted the survey with over 10,00 participants and half of them even felt that migrant workers should go back.

Even on issues such a eve-teasing and sexual harrassment, over half of the respondents felt that women ’provoke’ men with the way they dress.

Manjunath Sadashiva, director of CMCA. "This shows that the youth does not have a critical appreciation of the liberties and freedom one enjoys in a democracy. It shows the cynicism and disillusionment with the political scenario, but doesn’t justify the preference for an authoritarian government or military rule."
