Will making a PMs museum in Teen Murti Bhavan dilute Nehru’s legacy?

New Delhi, Aug 28, 2018 : The government’s proposal to build a museum commemorating all former Prime Ministers of India at the Teen Murti Bhavan complex in New Delhi has come under fire from certain quarters.

The house is named after the Teen Murti Memorial built in 1922 in the memory of Indian soldiers who fought in World War I alongside British forces.

Originally conceived as the residence of the Commander-in-Chief of the British Indian Army, the premises served as a home to Jawaharlal Nehru for 16 years until his death in office, in 1964. Since then, the sprawling 30-acre facility in the heart of Central Delhi has become a memorial to Nehru.

Do you think constructing a museum to honour other PMs in the same complex will dilute Nehru’s legacy? Is this, like Manmohan Singh recently observed in a letter to PMO, an attempt by BJP to ’change the nature and character’ of the memorial?
