Uma Bharti back in BJP after 6 years

New Delhi, June 7: After spending years in political oblivion, firebrand former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti rejoined the Bhartiya Janata Party on Tuesday.

Uma BharathiThe official announcement was made by BJP president Nitin Gadkari at the party headquarters here in presence of Bharti and other senior leaders.

“On behalf of myself and other party leaders, I welcome her wholeheartedly back in the BJP,” Gadkari said.

“She is from our parivar. She is very much committed to our ideology, her return will strengthen the party,” he added.

However, as expected, Gadkari announced that Uma Bharti’s area of work would be Uttar Pradesh. “She would work for the party from Lucknow. BJP will gain strength by her presence in UP,” he said.

Gadkari also announced that she would be the convenor of the party’s cell that is working on the save Ganga campaign.

When asked by reporters on whether the issues raised by Uma Bharti –she had accused party leaders of scheming against her - have been settled, Gadkari said, “Uma Bharti has herself said that she does not want to delve into the past.”

Gadkari also made it clear that the decision to take her back was unanimously taken by the party leadership.

Uma Bharti also addressed the media. She said, “The lesson I have learnt in the past 5-6 years that I have been out of the party is that there is no other way to work for the nation without compromising on my ideology than in the BJP.”

She also promised to stand up to the trust reposed on her by party and that she will do her best to revive party’s fortunes in Uttar Pradesh.

Uma Bharti, one of the most powerful leaders in the Saffron brigade, was expelled from the party in 2005 over differences with the party leadership.
