Tsunami alert issued after Indonesia’s 6.7-magnitude quake

JAKARTA, April 4 (Xinhua)- The Indonesian authorities issued a tsunami warning early Monday after an earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale jolted south of Java, Indonesia, according to the local seismological agency.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported the quake was 6.7- magnitude, which struck at 03:06 local time (2006 GMT). The epicenter, with a depth of 24.00 km, was initially determined to be at 9.7864 degrees south latitude and 107.7485 degrees east longitude.


The quake was centered at 277 km south of Tasikmalaya, Java, and 412 km south-southeast of Jakarta.


But the Indonesian seismological agency said the quake was 10 kilometers deep. So far, there has been no report of casualties or damage from the quake.
