Shimla, April 21: Self-styled godman Swami Nityananda, who has been linked to a sex scandal after sleazy video footage showing him was aired, was on Wednesday arrested from a village 50 km from Shimla, police said.
"He was arrested from a house near Arki town," Solan police chief Prem Thakur said.
Nityananda had been staying at a Solan hideout for over a month. The tainted swami was arrested after a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against him by a court. He has been charged under several sections of the IPCC.
Video footage telecast in early March showed Nityananda in bed with a woman. He, however, denied any wrongdoing. On March 30, the self-styled godman had announced his decision to resign as head of his Dhyanapeetam ashram and from all trusts associated with it, living a life of "spiritual seclusion" for an indefinite time.
The swami’s purported sleazy acts in company of a Tamil actress were aired by TV channels on March 3. He has claimed that the images in the video have been morphed and he had not done anything illegal.
