Mumbai copls danceMumbai, January 2: Mumbai Police Commissioner D Sivanandan on Saturday recommended the suspension of ACP Prakash Wani, DCP VN Salve and three other police officers for allegedly attending a party thrown by Chota Rajan gang members in suburban Chembur.

The suspension orders came even as sources said the five cops’ services are likely to be terminated as the police have photographic proof and CCTV footage of the five cops dancing in the gangsters’ party.

The Mumbai Police will hold a regular inquiry into the case and terminate the services of all five cops if found guilty.

Earlier in the day, ACP Wani had vehemently denied reports of him partying with Chhota Rajan gang members at the private club.

"The clips and photographs published in the media are doctored and it seems to be a conspiracy against me," Wani said.

Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil had on Friday directed an inquiry into the photographs of senior police officials purportedly attending a Christmas party thrown by gangsters and has sought a report.

"It is irresponsible on the part of the media to have published the clips without verifying it," Wani said. "The truth will come out after the inquiry has been conducted. My statement would also be recorded," he added.

He further claimed that "such allegations" would put a blot on his 33-year service in the police department.

The party was reportedly organised to celebrate Christmas and the release of some of the gang members.

The chief guest of the party was DK Rao, an alleged Chhota Rajan gang member, who was released after 13 years of imprisonment after being acquitted in 30 cases of murder and extortion.

Other guests in the party reportedly included Farid Tanasha and Sunil Poddar, both close aides of Chhota Rajan.
