The order will continue till the Cauvery Monitoring Committee files its report and the case will be heard on Monday.

The court order came after Karnataka and Tamil Nadu failed to resolve the dispute when the chief ministers of the two states met in Bangalore on November 29. During the meeting Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar had "flatly refused to release any water", according to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Referring to the demand of her state, Jayalalithaa had said that she had requested Karnataka to release at least 32 tmc-ft of water, but it was turned down by Shettar. It was the second time in 15 years that chief ministers of the two states had bilateral talks on the water row after 1997 when M Karunanidhi and JH Patel met in Chennai.
