Smog shuts 1,800 schools in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 5, 2016, DHNS: As many as 1,800 municipal primary schools and municipality-aided private schools have been ordered to shut on Saturday to shield students from harmful morning smog that has engulfed the city since Deepavali.

The decision by the three BJP-ruled municipal corporations would mount pressure on the Delhi government to follow suit and shut its own primary schools.

As of now, the civic primary schools’ closure is only for one day. “A decision on whether the schools will open on Monday or not will be taken on Sunday,” said an official of the East Corporation.

Following our decision to shut the schools, several private schools in the city have also decided to close down on Saturday, said an official.
