Siddaramaiah’s ’terror’ remark: BJP, Sangh outfits hold statewide agitation

Bengaluru, Jan 12, 2018 : The Bharatiya Janata Party workers and the activists of the Sangh outfits on Friday staged a jail bharo agitation across the state, condemning Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s statement calling the activists of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha and Hindu outfits terrorists.

 

But for a few incidents of heated arguments between the protesters and the police, the agitation, by and large, was peaceful.

The protesters holding a placard that read, Naanu Ugragami, Nannannu Bhandisi (I also a terrorist, arrest me) raised slogans against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the state government.

Hundreds of BJP workers and Sangh activists courted arrest across the state as part of jail bharo agitations.

In Mangaluru, the epicentre of communal tension, the BJP workers and the activists of Hindu organisations staged a protest in front of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee office at Kadri Mallikatte.

The police detained 86 BJP functionaries including prominent leaders Monappa Bhandari, Vedavyas Kamat, Yogesh Bhat, Satyajit Suratkal, Roopa Bangera among others under Section 71 of Police Act and released them a while later.

Kalaburagi witnessed tense moments for a while on Friday when the agitating BJP workers tried to breach the barricades erected in front of DCC office. The agitators got into a heated verbal exchange with the police. Over 200 protesters including Dakshin MLA Dattatreya Revoor, were detained and were released later in the day.

In Chitradurga, the police foiled an attempt by the BJP workers to lay siege the Congress office at Onake Obavva Circle. Similar protests were witnessed in Chikkamagaluru and other parts of Karnataka.

The jail bharo agitation, however, was not launched in Bengaluru in the wake of Vivekananda Jayanti celebrations. The agitation in the state capital will be held on Saturday.
