Quilon in Kerala gets new bishop

Quilon, Apr 20, 2018 : Pope Francis has appointed Rev Dr Paul Antony Mullassery,  currently Vicar General of the diocese of Quilon as Bishop of the same Diocese. This ecclesiastical provision was made public on 18 April, 2018.

The request for resignation from the pastoral care of the Archdiocese of the Diocese of Quilon, presented by Bishop Stanley Roman was accepted by the Pope on  April 18.


Bishop elect Paul Antony Mullassery, was born in Kaithakody on January 15th 1960, in the Diocese of Quilon. He studied  at St. Raphael Trinity Lyceum and Minor Seminary in Quilon  and later completed Philosophy and Theology studies at St. Joseph’s Pontifical Seminary in Alwaye. He was ordained a priest on December 22, 1984 for the Diocese of Quilon.

He obtained a Doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome and a post-doctorate diploma from Gregorian University on the same subject.

Apart from chairing the diocesan tribunal, Dr. Mullassery had also served as vicar at the parishes of Vadakumthala, Maruthurkulangara, Padappakara, and Tangasseri .

Dr. Mullassery was the Joint Director for Catechesis and Bible Apostolate also the Spiritual Director of the Saint Raphael’s seminary, Quilon from 2014-2017. He is also a professor of Canon Law at Bhodhi Institute of Theology, Tillery, Kollam (the Capuchin Theology Seminary).
