Odisha first Indian state to extend Covid-19 lockdown till April 30

Odisha, Apr 09, 2020: Amid unconfirmed speculation about the nationwide lockdown due to end on April 14, Odisha has become the first Indian state to extend the ongoing lockdown. In a statement on Thursday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that his government has decided to extend the lockdown period in Odisha till April 30, IndiaToday reported.

"During ongoing lockdown period amid Covid-19 crisis, your discipline and sacrifice has provided us the strength to fight Covid-19," said chief minister Patnaik.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s official figures on April 9, Odisha has 42 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. This number includes one patient who succumbed to the infection and two individuals who recovered.
