Mukhtar Ansari’s son Abbas’s house raided: Six weapons, 4,431 cartridges recovered

Lucknow, Oct 18 2019: The Lucknow police raided jailed controversial MLA Mukhtar Ansari’s son Abbas Ansari’s residence in Delhi and recovered six firearms and around 4000 cartridges. Few recovered firearms are foreign-made, said police.

The police conducted raids after lodging FIR against Abbas Ansari last week at Mahanagar police station under the relevant section of Arms Act.

“Police raided Abbas house at Vasant kunj in Delhi and recovered six weapons – four guns, a rifle and and a rifle. Few of them were imported in India. Abbas was staying there on rent,” said Station House Officer, Mahanagar police station, Ashok Kumar Singh adding Abbas was then not present in the house.

On October 12, Lucknow police lodged an FIR against Abbas on the basis of an inquiry report. The inquiry team found that Abbas had purchased more than one weapon on an arms license issued on his name in 2012. The license was issued on Abbas’s Lucknow address at Nishatganj. The inquiry team also found that in 2015 Abbas got his arms licensed transferred to his Delhi’ Vasantkunj address. An FIR was lodged against Abbas under IPC section 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and Arms Act.

After obtaining permission from a local court of Lucknow, a police team from Lucknow in a joint operation with their Delhi counterparts, conducted raid at Abbas’s house and recovered six firearms and cartridges from there.

The Police have now invoked IPC sections 467 (Forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (Using as genuine a forged 1[document or electronic record] ) against Abbas.

“Abbas purchased extra weapons on same arms license by claiming himself to be national shooter,” said Singh.
