New Delhi, Sept 08, 2018 : As BJP tackles the protests over SC/ST Act and opposition’s criticism on the soaring fuel prices in its national executive meet, party president Amit Shah on Saturday said that the Narendra Modi-led government is working for “making India” whereas Congress is busy in “breaking India”.

During the meeting, the BJP chief claimed that the opposition is spreading misinformation on SC/ST Act and thus trying to divide the society in the name of caste by spreading false propaganda.

The crucial executive meet, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and cabinet leaders, also had a brainstorming over the upcoming assembly polls in five states and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The party also vowed to improve its 2014 tally during the meeting, PTI reported. The BJP had won 282 seats out of 543 in the 2014 parliamentary election.

“We should not be complacent and should work to ensure a bigger victory in 2019,” Shah said. He also lashed out at the opposition saying that “Mahagathbandhan is an eyewash, an illusion and is based on falsehood”.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who was also present in the meeting, also endorsed the BJP chief’s views. She said that parties which are in ‘Mahagatbandhan’ have been defeated by BJP even after 2014. “Mahagatdhan will not make any difference,” she was quoted as saying by ANI.

The crucial meeting comes two days after several organisations of upper castes staged Bharat Bandh in protest of the restoration of key provisions in SC/ST Act. BJP chief Amit Shah also held party’s national office bearers meeting before the national executive and paid floral tribute at the statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar at Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.

BJP gave meeting venue place a theme of “Sadaiv Atal”, in the memory of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who passed away last month. Inside the venue premises, a hoarding read Atal’s statement for Ambedkar: “The Constitution Dr Ambedkar has given to us, that is our greatest heritage.”

Also, another hoarding displayed the “Panchteerth” that the government has developed as a tribute to Ambedkar. These panchteerths are important places related to Dr. Ambedkar’s life.

A party office-bearer after the meeting said that party chief Amit Shah in his address emphasised on strengthening of party organisation and increasing activities in view of Lok Sabha polls.

In the meeting, it was discussed that party workers in coming days will approach nearly 22 crore beneficiaries of different schemes of NDA-led Central and state governments and will ensure that these beneficiaries turn up to cast their votes on polling day.

As the party has turned to the legacy of late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, videos and audio of his speeches and poetry were played inside the venue.
