Now, in the state, students will have to answer roll calls by saying "Jai Hind". The norm will come into effect in the new academic session.

In the official order, the state government said that the new norm would "instil patriotism" among school students.
Fact: All government schools will have to adhere to norm

"It has now been made compulsory for all 1.22 lakh government schools in state to answer attendance roll calls by saying Jai Hind instead of yes sir/ma’am. This is the decision taken by state government to instil patriotism among students," said the official order.

Although the order doesn’t mention what private schools will be required to do, earlier, school education minister Vijay Shah had said that an advisory would be issued to all private schools in the state in this regard.

Meanwhile, official sources said that the nod for the order was given by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan himself.

The move comes after the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government held trials.

In September 2017, school education minister Vijay Shah had announced that students of government schools in the Satna district would have to respond to roll calls with ’Jai Hind’.

Shah had also said then that the system would be implemented across the state if trials in Satna were successful.
