Kerala temple tragedy: PM Modi to visit today; CM offers all assistance

Kerala, April 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed grief and sadness over the fire tragedy in Kollam, Kerala in which over 100 people were killed and around 350 injured.

The Prime Minister will be arriving in Kerala this afternoon. He has already spoken to Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and has offered all assistance.

The Prime Minister has announced ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured in the fire, from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

Government sources said he has asked Union Health Minister JP Nadda to immediately reach the site.

A team of burn specialists will accompany the Prime Minister to Kerala, sources said.

Prime Minister Modi has also directed state officials that no protocol formalities be observed on his arrival in Kollam, the sources said, adding that he has asked the Air Force and Navy to assist in shifting those seriously injured in the fire tragedy to better medical facilities.
