Kerala Floods: Kochi Airport to Now Resume Operations From August 29

Kerala, Aug 24, 2018 : Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) announced on Wednesday evening that the airport will be operational from August 29 as against the previous date of August 26. According to an ANI report, a meeting was held at CIAL to review the damage control activities at Kochi Airport. CIAL informed, "In view of concerns expressed by stakeholders of airlines and ground staff that 90 per cent of their staffers got affected by the flood, CIAL has decided to extend the date of resuming operations for three more days and operations will start on August 29."

The heavy rains had brought the state to a standstill and it claimed more than 357 lives. Air traffic to and fro Air traffic to and from Kerala’s Cochin International Airport was completely stopped due to flash floods on August 19. The total loss the state has suffered due to the floods is estimated to be over Rs 20,000 crore. Massive relief operations are taking place to help people stranded and displaced in the state. The first commercial flight of Air India landed at INS Garuda Kochi Naval Air Station on August 20, after the Kochi Airport was shut completely.  Other airlines like Vistara, Jet Airways, GoAir have been running special services to help people those who are stranded in the devastating floods that have displaced several lives.
