With the government all set to appoint the Chief of Defence Staff Navy, Army and Air Force are looking at enhancing their capabilities by working out starters of jointness.

The key to this would be with various arms of all three forces training together and carry out joint exercises.

All future operations would be planned and executed jointly by the three services and therefore the ways to optimise joint planning structures, tri-service synergy, and operational readiness will be deliberated during the interaction with NSA, Chiefs of Indian Army and IAF, the Indian Navy said in a statement.

Deliberations on a joint services act are also likely. The need for common legislation for the three services was also discussed at the recently concluded army commanders conference.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday after addressing the Naval commanders that he is satisfied with the strong vigil maintained in the seas to ensure a 26/11 type of attack does not take place again.Navy has taken steps to ensure that a 26/11 like situation doesn’t happen again. The sea route is secure under the Navy’s watch. The capabilities of the Navy also enhanced over the years, Singh said.

Talking about nuclear threats from Pakistan, Singh said, "India has never been offensive. We have never invaded anyone nor has India annexed an inch of territory from anyone. Indian Armed forces are fully capable of giving a befitting reply to any evil designs against the country."

During the course of three days, the Chief of the Naval Staff, with the Commanders-in-Chief, will review major operational, material, logistics, HR, training and administrative activities undertaken during the previous six months and deliberate upon the course to be steered in the ensuing months.

The deliberations during the Conference will focus on addressing the contemporary security paradigms whilst seeking ways to enhance the combat potential of the Navy and to make the operations more efficient.

"There will also be discussions on the ’Functional Reorganisation of Indian Navy’ towards improving Operational Efficiency," the navy said.

The event also provides an opportunity for the Commanders to undertake a detailed review of the performance of weapons, sensors, the readiness of Indian Navy platforms.

Commanders will also review the ongoing Naval projects with a focus to enhance indigenisation through ’Make in India’. The half-yearly conference also reviews the developments in the region with a view to assessing the way ahead for implementation of initiatives towards the concept of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) articulated by the Prime Minister.
